Roller coasters: Update on dad

Good evening my friends,

What a roller coaster ride today has been....CT scan, surgeon just finding out he was in ICU, air in his abdomen, possibility of colon leaking air or gastric fluid into the abdomen, finding nothing out of the ordinary in his abdomen, heart rate and BP staying stable, blood sugar coming back closer to normal, no fever, oxygen reduced to 40% (was 100% 24 hrs ago), kidneys working much better, and oxygen saturation staying at 100%.

Dr C (critical care doc) has seen him several times today. Daddy is still sedated and on the respirator. Taking the oxygen level down to 40% was such a great thing to hear. They are going to put in a PIC line tomorrow to give them 3 more access lines into his body. That way they won't have to use his port to put so many different meds/fluids in. He will also be started on TPN (total parenteral nutrition - administration of a nutritionally adequate solution through a catheter) feedings tomorrow night. His weight has dropped to 110 which is not real good. His is still critical but is slowly improving. Dr Hartigan said his lungs look really bad, very wet. We still don't know exactly what started the downward spiral. Dr. C said it could have been caused by aspiration of gastric fluid into his lungs. No matter. Right now the goal is to get him better.

Please continue to pray for those caring for him. His day nurse, Alex, it THE BEST, and will be ours again tomorrow.
